Please include the following information with this application (single-sided pages only, please):

 

1. Summarize (no more than 2 pages) the title and nature of your research.  We are particularly interested in the innovative and creative aspects of your work. How does it break new ground in your field, and what are its wider implications?

2.  Provide a short excerpt as a writing sample (approximately  600 words).  This can be from the proposed dissertation or a published article.

3. Objectives and Accomplishments: Describe fully your intellectual and professional interests and your academic, professional, or personal objectives. List unusual honors, awards, achievements (submit single-sided copies if possible). List published works, if any (abstracts not to exceed one paragraph may be included).  You may also include any other information you consider pertinent for consideration.

4. Include three sealed, confidential letters of recommendation (addressed to the Phi Beta Kappa Fellowship Committee), at least one of which must have been written in the past six months.

5. Supply official undergraduate transcripts for all schools attended and official Berkeley graduate transcripts.

6. Outline the financial problems you face, and how the fellowship would help you solve them. Tell why the more conventional forms of university financial aid do not cover your need.

 

Applications are due on February 26, 2008.  Incomplete application packets will not be considered.
